The students received a quality of Art Experiences and learned Techniques for tile making which included adapting their own designs in a large scale project, including clay, applying glaze, separating a Kilo and coordinating their materials and schedules into a major public artwork.

2001 MURAL PROJECT
Sentenced to the Art Program
Paper Mural "To Touch"
was created with 23 adjudicated youth and Storytellers, Inc. artist, b.j. McBride at the Thornberry Center for youth and Storytellers, Inc. The summer workshop was done as a partnership with Jackson County Family Court, Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Kansas City and Storytellers, Inc. (Kansas City, MO.)
The mission was for the youth to develop new skills that promotes team work, self esteem, values and problem-solving techniques requiring daily and the work-place. The youth experienced how to develop an ideal, Acquire the skills necessary and see it through to completion.
Visiting artist, Andre' Swancy, developed the processing for creating a paper mural and demonstrated for the class. The class learned about the sequential development of making small relief paper moulds that would be adhered to a 4' x 6' panel. Youth learned how to make paper, prepare a balsa foam mould and create their piece. The completion of the piece depended on each youth contributing at least one mould and assisting their fellow classmates with learning the process.

"To Touch" is concrete art object yet it is infused with relationships, afflnties and healing. The paper mural is strong, creative, powerful, elegant, the mirror of its creators and a testament to their resiliency and spirit.
3RD MURAL PROJECT - ATLANTA
Swancy collaborated with other artist commissioned to mural projects in Atlanta, GA 1997 titled:
"Tell - tale tiles" and array of more than 600 hand-painted ceramic tiles. 20 middle school students from Martin Luther King Jr. middle school painted for the Summerhill Rebirth sculpture a monument to their self-esteem.
Swancy was not commissioned for this project but was ask to assist with the tiles painting process in order for the artist to meet the deadline for the completion.
Swancy's effort to paint designs on tiles positively impacted the artist's ability to complete the project on schedule. He received photographs and articles about the project for his files.
